Abstract

Familial Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young individuals and athletes. This review investigates the arrhythmogenic mechanisms associated with HCM, including ion channel dysfunction, myocardial fibrosis, and abnormal repolarization. We explore current guidelines for SCD prevention, including the use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), lifestyle modifications, and pharmacologic interventions. Recent advancements in risk stratification using cardiac MRI, late gadolinium enhancement, and electrocardiographic markers are also discussed. Understanding these mechanisms and prevention strategies is essential for reducing SCD incidence in HCM patients.
