AI in Ophthalmology: Transforming Eye Care and Vision Health
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming ophthalmology by improving the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. This paper reviews AI applications in detecting conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. We highlight case studies where AI algorithms have outperformed traditional diagnostic methods and provided personalized treatment recommendations. The paper also discusses challenges such as data quality, patient privacy, and integration with clinical practice. Future research directions are proposed to enhance the role of AI in ophthalmology, aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
