Abstract

: This systematic review investigates the effectiveness of AI-based chatbots in providing mental health support. With the increasing demand for mental health services and the shortage of mental health professionals, AI-powered chatbots have emerged as a promising solution to bridge the gap in access to care. The review examines empirical studies and clinical trials conducted on AI chatbots deployed in various mental health settings, including therapy, counseling, and self-help interventions. Key outcomes assessed include user satisfaction, symptom reduction, adherence to treatment, and therapeutic alliance. Additionally, the review explores the potential benefits, limitations, and ethical considerations associated with integrating AI chatbots into mental health care delivery. Findings from this review aim to inform policymakers, healthcare providers, and researchers about the current state of evidence regarding the efficacy and utility of AI-based chatbots in mental health support.
