Education for Sustainable Development: Empowering Future Generations to Address Global Challenges
Abstract
Education is widely recognized as a key enabler of sustainable development, yet its potential remains underutilized in many contexts. This paper examines the concept of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and its role in equipping individuals with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to address global challenges. The study reviews ESD frameworks and initiatives at various educational levels, from primary schools to higher education institutions. It also explores the integration of sustainability into curricula and the importance of fostering critical thinking and systems thinking. The research emphasizes the transformative power of education in achieving SDG 4 (Quality Education) and its cross-cutting impact on other SDGs, such as climate action and reduced inequalities.
