Green Infrastructure in Urban Areas: Enhancing Resilience and Biodiversity
Abstract
Urban areas are increasingly vulnerable to climate change impacts, including extreme weather events and biodiversity loss. This paper investigates the role of green infrastructure—such as green roofs, urban forests, and permeable pavements—in enhancing urban resilience and biodiversity. The study evaluates the environmental, social, and economic benefits of green infrastructure, drawing on examples from cities worldwide. The findings suggest that green infrastructure not only mitigates climate risks but also improves air quality, reduces urban heat islands, and enhances community well-being. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers and urban planners to prioritize green infrastructure in sustainable urban development, contributing to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
